Free Classes
At Hollies, our babies and toddlers are taught weekly baby sign language classes by Claire and Adele from TinyTalk. Baby sign language (AKA baby signing) refers to the act of communicating with babies using a range of simple symbolic gestures. Research has shown that sign language can speed up speech development, and it lets babies communicate vital information, such as if they are hurt or hungry. Research also suggests that baby sign language might give a typically developing child a way to communicate several months earlier than those who only use vocal communication. This might help ease frustration of younger babies and toddlers, when they begin to know what they want, need, and feel but don't necessarily have the verbal skills to express themselves. There is also evidence to suggest that children who have developmental delays might benefit from baby signing too. Baby Yoga
We love yoga at Hollies! Our sessions are delivered every week by Sharon from https://www.theblossomtreekeyworth.co.uk There are many benefits from practising yoga from a young age: the breathing exercises and relaxation techniques learned from practicing yoga can help children with stress management and cope with their anxiety levels too; it helps children learn to be mindful of the present moment and gain a peaceful state of mind; it can improve self-esteem, coming from perfecting a pose or improving their balance / flexibility can give young children a sense of personal empowerment; enhanced concentration and memory, arising from different types of movements requiring children to focus and work on their memorisation skills; it helps develop and improve strength and flexibility; it teaches discipline and reduces impulsivity, which ultimately can help to reduce challenging behaviours by providing a physical outlet for children to express themselves. Practising yoga has so many positive benefits that it’s hard to see why we aren’t all doing it!

Spanish with David Fabra
Children are like information sponges; whilst they are still young, their minds are being constructed and structured every day to understand the stimulus that they get from the world around them. Experts say that children who learn a language before their teenage years are more likely than older learners to achieve native-like pronunciation. Furthermore, research has found that children have an innate ability to acquire the rules of any language - an ability that disappears by adulthood. Over 572 million people worldwide speak Spanish, and here at Hollies we’re adding to that number. Every week David Fabra comes and teaches Spanish to our toddlers and preschool children. David is from the wine region of Rioja in northern Spain, where he qualified as a teacher. After finishing university, David came to Nottingham, where he now lives with his two children (who were his inspiration to start teaching Spanish). You can find out more about David on his Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/eastmidlandslanguages
